Class Info for Enrolled Families

Class Size: Each class has between 6 and 12 registered children, plus their caregiver(s).

Class Length All classes are 45-minutes. All classes meet once a week. We offer a 9-week session each school term.

Refund Policy: No tuition refunds are given after classes begin. Families are responsible for class attendance.

Make-up Class Policy: We offer unlimited makeup classes during each term session. Makeups must be used within the same term and cannot be transferred to another session. Available on a space-available basis.

How do I schedule a make-up? Current families can schedule make-ups online here! Once you've scheduled your makeup you will receive a confirmation email.

Timeliness Request: Please do your best to arrive at class on time - it will make your child's adjustment easier, and we do plan to start classes promptly. If you run late, sing the 'Hello Song'  as you go! It may take some stress away from you both and help with the transition in to class.

Can I bring a guest or an unregistered older sibling to class? Sometimes an older sibling (or unregistered sibling needs to attend class with you. No problem! Our policy is that unregistered siblings may attend one class per session for free. A second visit is $10. Both or either parents, Grandparents, Aunts & Uncles or other caregivers are welcome to attend class at any time - no need to ask.

Food/Toys etc. To keep the space clean ad keep us all focused, please have your children finish snacks outside the room. If possible, please keep toys and food out of the circle. These items can be a huge distraction to other children and they're better off left in the car. With food, please be extremely mindful of leaving crumbs and other children and allergies.

Taking Pictures in Class

While occasionally snapping a pic of your child in the class is fine, we want you to focus on modeling music-making for your child. The best time to take photos is during the play-along so that you can sing throughout the rest of the class. If you get a great shot, I would love you to share any photos with me!

Media Release

From time to time photos or videos may be taken during class and used only for the purposes of promoting our classes in a positive manner. By agreeing to these terms you agree to have you and/or your child's photo taken and used for such purposes. You may OPT OUT of this by emailing [email protected]. You are also encouraged to mention it to your teacher on the first day of classes.

Your Role In Class

Modeling for the Children

All children have the natural ability to learn to sing in tune, keep a beat, and participate with confidence and pleasure in music and movement, provided that their early environment supports such learning. Your active participation, in class and at home, is the key to your children learning and growing musically. At Music Together® we introduce parents and their young children to the joys of actively making music rather than passively consuming it. Young children learn through play and experimentation, and by watching and listening to the grownups they love enjoying making music. Parents don't need to have musical skills, just a desire to play and have fun with their children!

Avoiding Verbal Directives

It can be tough to restrain the impulse to give your child directives such as "Do what she is doing, hold your instrument this way" but children respond best by just seeing and hearing you doing (and enjoying) it yourself! We allow toddlers to wander through the room, but if you want your child to come back to you, redirect your child physically back to you or the circle instead of calling to them. Of course, watch out for your child's safety, but mostly your job is to just relax, and have fun!

Using Music Together Materials

Play your music at home and in the car as frequently as possible, especially during the first few weeks of class. Make it available to you child to listen to while she is playing before or before nap or bedtime. Use the songbook at storytime instead of a regular book, and sing through the songs as you go along. Looking at the printed notes on the page will help children understand that music is something that can be read, like words! Familiarisation with notation will help them when they are ready for formal music instruction, typically when they are school-aged. You can download the full notation online when you sign in to your account on musictogether.com using the code in your songbook.
